Large Format Artwork File Preparation

Share with Your Professional Network

Output awareness, proper file settings and available industry references provide the necessary tools to assure advertising product investments are accurately produced.  To prepare and submit commercial grade artwork files for our large format display product line, simply mirror to the following procedures.

CMYK Color Mode Design, Bitmaps & Output

GeoMetrix Display #337123

Printing applications for our Visual Display Products are CMYK output.

  • Convert RGB images and color pallets to CMYK prior to submission

  • Use the Pantone Process Color Reference Book for auditing converted RGB images and assigning and adjusting visually correct CMYK color values to these elements

  • For critical CMYK colors, list the CMYK color number found in the Pantone Process Color Reference Book in the left hand margin below the product template key chart and on a separate ‘key color layer’ within the submitted artwork file

  • For full black, we recommend setting CMYK values to C 75 M 68 Y 67 B 90

  • Bitmaps sized to 200 DPI.  Setting the print output above 200 dpi does not provide a higher resolution output and only increases the transferred and stored file size.

  • Use an online digital image provider such as or commercial photographer for large format bitmap and photo imagery inclusion

  • Vector artwork elements eliminates many of these bitmap sizing issues

  • If vector elements are to be converted to raster, do it to size at 200 dpi

Download the Artwork Template file

  • On the specific catalog page, select the ‘GRAPHIC INFO’ tab and download the 'Product Template’ PDF files

  • The first page offers an overview of the output specifications while the second page is the working  file template to open and retain in Adobe Illustrator

  • Verify the ‘printed’ color output as CMYK for the selected product (If Pantone Spot Color, prepare using this color mode and apply trap for proximity colors)

  • Open the Product Template file in Adobe Illustrator and place on a separate locked layer. Retain this template layer in the submitted file as doing so will expedite the pre-pre-production audit of the file and assure proper formatting (It will not print with the final graphics).

  • Convert fonts to outlines
